Day 21 - Treasure I was trying to think what would I consider a treasure? What would I save if my house was on fire? Though there are some trinkets and knick knacks that I would rather not see destroyed there probably isn't anything I would dive back into the flames for. Apart from my family of course. This would include all our family dogs. Our first dog was Biddy, a very scrappy Jack Russell who chased every car down the road that passed our house. It was an estate in the early 80s and so not too busy. I don't remember much about her except she guarded the fire in the sitting room and wouldn';t let anyone near it if she was toasting her paws. She probably wasn't a very good dog but I have fond memories such as they are. There were various hamsters and guinea pigs and some cats; they all got lost or run over or occasionally died of natural causes but it was always the dogs that I liked best. Sorry cat lovers, dogs are better. FACT! Anyway, our second family dog was Sandy. This is my interpretation of me as a wean with Sandy as a puppy. I had a ridiculously big fringe thanks to my mum's hair cutting skills that I eventually grew out by aged 15 after puberty made my hair go curly. Sandy was a golden Labrador, yes I know we weren't very original with the name, give us a break I was about 6 or 7. Sandy was wily, not a very good pedigree and used to run away all the time, coming back at dinner time usually covered in shit. She was a wonderful dog. She would sleep with me at night time and go right under the covers, coorying in so close, only emerging when she got too hot. She'd run up the hills forever and always want to run more. She ate everything. We had to run to the door when the newspaper was delivered (they used to do that y'know) before she got there or she'd rip it to pieces in an angry frenzy. She would bark at everyone anywhere near her territory. If you were upset she'd sit beside you in sympathy, eyes closed, head nestled next to yours, until you felt better. She got to the ripe old age of 15 and we'll never forget her. After Sandy there was Brodie and of course Daisy who we still have, but their stories are for another time. via Instagram https://ift.tt/2qxxPiN
