More of a foxy vibe this time. Went by one of the recipes I found but it ended up being super sticky so I dumped in a load of plaster. I converted the volume to cups as I don’t have a measuring cup here so that may have something to do with. Also, as I pulped the paper yesterday, it had gone quite clumpy even though it was still damp I had it in a sealed plastic tub. I think also because I squeezed the life out of it through muslin and maybe squeezed too much. So after much hand mixing it became a lot smoother but maybe still a little lumpy. I added plaster until it was like a bread dough. The application felt more spongy than before and was actually more difficult to smooth. I think I over did the plaster and it was probably reacting to the moisture and reducing working time. Next up, next recipe...with wetter pulp...and less plaster.

Still quite damp as there are a lot of thick bits but its staying in shape. I put a spray release on the plaster face cast before I applied the paper clay so it came off pretty easy. A few cracks but that might be more to do with its dampness and the amount of glue I put in. More next time. I like this though. I put in vinegar as a preservative and it’s a bit whiffy 🥴 but that will go when it’s totally dry. Ok! Now to try another one with my smoother pulp.

First batch of paper is a bit lumpy. I was worried that I was going to burn out the motor of my blender as it wasn't blending the paper pulp very well. Then I realised the bits that hadn't pulped up were actually kind of plasticy. So note to self: make sure the paper from your shredder is all just copy paper. I'm assuming it was some heavily coated something I had put through. Anyway, after having go with what I got and trying to remove as much of the plasticy stuff I ended up with a rather lumpy mask that I tried on my face cast. I think more glue is required too. This evening I double sieved the remaining pulp in an attempt to get rid of the big plasticy bits: first through a colander then the strained liquid through muslin. It's still got some bits but definitely better. Will see how today's effort has dried tomorrow and then have another go with a few different recipes.

On the way back home. Farewell Manchester and Mayfield Depot.

On train, all good but...even though Virgin Trains let you book seats, they haven't actually reserved them so there is inevitably someone in your seat who doesn't know it's reserved. And no luggage racks. Station guy unhelpfully said "anywhere you like" when asked where I should be put my luggage. I refrained from my temptation to just put it right in the middle of the aisle. Bit annoying but I have a seat and it's the only annoying thing that has happened so could be much worse. I've had a brilliant time but will be glad to get back to my own bed.

These were dubbed the Holy Cows as, by gum, they were some work. I only did a tiny portion by creating the 3D relief on the heads. They are quite magnificent!
