via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CC6CA8GFUFA/ So the massacre is done. 5.5ft rubber plant air layered and rooted and cut down to 2 x 1ft plants and a cutting. Will any survive? We shall see. We had a good chat about it and he said he was feeling a bit sore but thinks he’ll be ok. I do hope so, he’s been my consistent companion for over 20 years. Good vibes and tlc forthcoming.😁 🌱 🎋🌴

I decided I had to be brave and start making a move back towards some kind of normality and so today was the day. Not hugely productive, mostly just bringing back and sorting all the stuff I had taken home to occupy myself during lockdown, but I also put up a shelf! Or rather part of a shelf. My previous flatmates know how much I love a good bit of shelving...Spikey the Hedgehog looks on with approval. More shelving tomorrow!

I went with some family when I was 14 but to be honest I don’t remember too much other than it was a sunny day and I had a good time. Was probably the first festival I went to (other than the Glasgow Garden Festival of course, I still have my Coca Cola rollercoaster ticket).
Last night, I “went” to an interesting online talk reminiscing about about the festival, with speakers of those who produced it, performed at it and went to it. I did know at the time it had a political bent (a protest towards getting our own Scottish Parliament) but as none of my family ever really talked about politics, it mostly washed over me. I do wonder though, whether some of it subconsciously seeped in. My impressionable mind must have heard some words when munching on candy floss.🤔 Having now worked in outdoor arts and festivals for the last decade, the current situation does make me wonder what is ahead of us all. Maybe outdoor events will thrive with audiences in socially distanced bubbles. Will that work? How can a performer harass and delight an unsuspecting member of the public if they can’t get within 2m of them? Or maybe audiences will grow as they will feel safer in their distanced bubble. Or maybe it will be the new dangerous sport for adrenaline junkies to tempt fate. Who knows! But I guess we’ll find out... #dayforscotland #30yearsago #impressionableminds #politics #festivals #outdoorarts #aftercovid #whatsnext #adrenilinejunkie #keepsafe #washyourhands #wearamask via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CCqEgsjlJFa/ Surge Festival continues online this evening from 6.15pm - until after midnight!! - link in bio . A few weeks ago I decided to try air layering and create roots near the top section where there are nice healthy, big leaves and get rid of the rest of it. You may just see a bulge near the top of the trunk. That is a spagnum moss and cling film bandage. This is airlayering and has bloomin’ worked to my great surprise. Roots have appeared at the cut away of the bark underneath the moss and I’ll soon cut it off and replant the top into its own pot, assuming the decapitation causes no further difficulties. Very excited that this had worked as I was sceptical my fingers were any shade of green.
My plants’ survival is due to their own determination and in spite of my care rather than any deliberation on my part. Today though, I had another surprise - noticed sudden growth of leaves/tiny branches from the nodules left by previously fallen leaves (caused by temporary darkness and neglect). I do know that if you cut a score just above a nodule it can turn into a branch and I did do this after the leaves had fallen but nothing grew. And that was literally years ago! But this week it has decided to spring into life without me doing anything. So my intention now is to cut the top off and replant and then wait for the new branches to grow a bit bigger. I’ll then chop off the crappy, curled leafed and weedy central section and see how it fares. There is also another leaf growing out from nodule of a deliberately cut leaf near the air layering. It’s just fascinating how nature survives and fights on. Gives me hope about the future, if my wee, lanky rubber plant can suddenly burst in to life and growth then anything is possible.😁👍 Anyone want a rubber plant?? I might end up with 3.😲 #aintnaturegrand #rubberplants #growth #airlayering #airlayeringpropagation #hopeforthefuture #anyonewantarubberplant? via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CCMYq44F7sy/ |
