Inspired by Jess' enthusiasm for the fabulous "New Owner" by Aussie The Last Great Hunt Theatre Company I wanted to make a dog puppet. It's going to be modelled on Jess' Phoebe the sausage dog. First stop - get a shape!

​Once upon a time there were 4 little pigs. One had lost its legs in a tragic mining incident, another had no brain because it forgot to put it in one day and then forgot where it had left it, the third had no butt because it accidentally sat down on a crocodile thinking it was a rock; the crocodile wasn’t very pleased. The fourth though...the forth’s fate was even more tragic as its creator had forgotten to spray silcone release betwixt the layers of its two part mould and will be forever encased in a never-ending prison of rubber; never to be born...never to die.....

Jessica will be experimenting with how puppetry can be used inVerbatim Theatre and the impact the puppet has on the audience when dealing with strong themes and Social Issues - specifically looking at Social Media's impact on young people's mental health. Jessica performed an early idea using the same Social Issue and Shadow Theatre, mixing puppetry and performer silhouettes at the Manipulate Festival 2018, programmed by Puppet Animation Scotland.

Form; Verbatim Theatre and Puppetry - one muppet-style puppet, with light sources inside to project Shadow Puppetry onto nearby surfaces; ie laptop screen, plain face mask, curtain, dolls house etc. The Shadow Puppetry represents the main puppet thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Pigsticks goes snorkelling!

I decided to make multiple Pigstickses. Good old 2-part mould and casting with silicone and resin. I made the first half barrier with New Clay which is nice to sculpt with but quite difficult to get out crevices like Pigsticks ears when preparing for the 2nd part. Think I'll stick with a sulphur free modelling clay (i.e. plasticine) next time. Needs to be sulphur free as it can react with the silicone and not let it cure and you just end up with a sticky mess. Brands of sulphur free include Chavant NSP, New Plast,  Monster Clay and Plasteline,

A friend of mine recently got back in touch because her laptop got stolen and unfortunately a ton of photos of her art work and loads of other things was lost. Her cloud storage was only backed up to 2017. So I’ve been getting nostalgic looking through photos to send to her.

We met, along with this motley crew, in 2006 for a post grad course at Cyprus College of Art. Can’t believe it’s nearly 12 years since we said farewell to the quirky building and structures that made up the Lempa “campus”. A series of sheds surrounded by concrete sculptures and brightly coloured murals that shone in the blue Cyprus air. I’m still in touch with a fair few of the guys from then, and amazing folks they were too. A ridiculous, fun, eventful, beautiful, artful time it was. There may have been a few sherries had throughout the year. Beer O’clock after a game of tennis with Keo and Pitta Bakes! Never to be forgotten. Good times..

My next exciting adventure is going to be in Manchester! I've been selected as an Elevate artist to work with the fabulous Walk the Plank, outdoor arts theatre and pyrotechnic company.

They are based in Salford in Greater Manchester and are making giant carnival puppets for the 10th annual Manchester Day parade that celebrates all things Manchester.. As part of their Elevate artist development programme, I've been selected, along with other emerging artists, to work with them on this project. There are lots of Masterclasses for people of all backgrounds to learn new skills on the programme too. I'm so pleased they picked me to work on the puppets and I'm so looking forward to working with them and visiting Manchester. I've been once before visiting friends and had a lovely time, it's a city with a great vibe, much like Glasgow.

Manchester Day is on 23rd June 2019, so I'll probably be heading down for the few days before that. Lots of photos of my time there to follow!

​Bobi’s getting packed for a trip to Edinburgh tomorrow to visit @jessica_innes_ and get some innards fitted. Don’t think he quite realised he was the thing getting packed. I’m sure he’ll be comfy enough, he’s very flexible. Muchos cheers to @m.k.andrew for taking him through.
