Day 22 #marchmeetthemaker - Proud of

I’ve just finished off upholstering a new seat pad for the foot stool that goes with my dad’s recliner. I’ve snaffled it for the workshop. Even with his amazing abilities to make stuff, my dad also had a habit of destroying things in an attempt make other things work better. I’m sure I haven’t inherited that particular trait...ahem...carry on... He took off the original seat pad to attach it to an exercise rowing machine or something but it was too slidey and we now don’t know where it is. Could be in bits or attached to something else for all we know.

The legs however survived and so with a bit of MDF, some scrap material and foam, my trusty staple gun and a beginner’s upholstery book from 1983, I put together this rather lush pad. Far from perfect but not bad for a first go at upholstery, does the job. My mum is going to get me to recover her dining chairs so a good practice run.

What I’m proud of is myself. A little self-congratulatory perhaps but if I’m not proud of what I’ve achieved in my life, who the hell else is going to? Though I know that both my mum and dad would always have said they were proud of me and that means the world. I’m a very lucky girl. I'm proud that I have done so many interesting things, met so many wonderful people and been to so many fantastic places. Not that it’s going to stop.

I feel I can turn my hand to making most things, usually always new things where I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’ll always have a blooming good try. So impressed was my friend Chris of my non-plumbed water dispensing system that he said he would definitely team up with me for the impending zombie apocalypse. I’m not sure how good I would be trying to fight off the zombie hoardes armed with only a severed limb, never having done it before but as I said, I’d give it a jolly good go.
