Unfortunately, it's a no go for the RSA Open Exhibition. It's really difficult to judge whether these things are worth it. Great if you get in; thousands of people will see your work including buyers, agents and gallery owners but if you don't, it's wasted money, travel and effort.
I still think it's a good idea to do it though, as the old NY Lotto adage says "You've got to be in it to win it" which is very true but I'm careful which ones I chose. The RSA is a mere £6 per work but many can set you back as much as £25 per work. I have managed to get some previous work into annuals but it does leave me with a certain sense of defeat when I get the knock back. However, it is short lived, I then forget about it and go to the next thing. Onwards and upwards.
