It's been a busy old start to the new year. Just before Xmas I had caught the eye of a new gallery in Glasgow, The Thistle Gallery. The lovely Carol Dunbar has offered me space in her next group exhibition, "Curves" with the opening night on 31st Jan. I'll post up the invite and info soon. I'm so excited about this exhibition and am very grateful for the opportunity to exhibit in a contemporary gallery, hopefully good things will come from it. Carol has also let me know that my image will be used in the invites and some advertising, so if you come across it, have a look in Art Mag and the arts section of the Herald on the 24th Jan. Exciting times.
Unfortunately though I won't be able to make the exhibition opening as I'm going to still be in Qatar. I'm here on one of my mad jobs being part of the Carbon Lighting team making LED props (disco drums, disco handballs and disco goal nets) for the opening ceremony of the 2015 Men's World Handball Championships in Doha. We've been here since the 2nd Jan and was only supposed to stay until the opening on the 15th but they liked us so much they asked us to stay to use the props again for the closing ceremony. So here until the 3rd Feb. Had two weeks of absolute madness and now a little while of calm before the rehearsing of the closing ceremony begins. We should actually see a bit of the place now as we've only been in the windowless workshop at the Lusail Multi-Purpose Hall venue. Hopefully go and see the local Souq in Doha this evening. Have a look at the video of the opening below to see what we've been up to. The drums feature quite a lot, with the handball and nets particularly around 18 minutes and 24 minutes in.
Hope you can make it along to the exhibition, I'll certainly be popping in when I get back. Also, possible exhibition at the 13th Note during the last two weeks in March. More details to follow.
Happy New Year y'all!
